This Women’s Fitness Studio is Completing One Burpee per $1 Raised.
Each October, breast cancer survivors, their families, and the people in the community at large wear pink. They run races and donate to charities, in hopes of raising awareness and contributing to finding the a cure for breast cancer. The Samantha Taylor Fitness Team wanted to have a direct impact and help women suffering in the Tampa Bay…… that’s how Burpees for Breast Cancer Treatment was born.
For the week of October 22nd, members are encouraged to donate $1 per burpee to a trainer of their choice. On November 2nd, each trainer will complete the burpees during a FB Live session on Samantha Taylor’s FaceBook page on November 2nd. What is a burpee? A burpee is a full body exercise that starts in a standing position, requires you to drop down into a squat position with your hands on the ground while kicking your feet back into a plank position and getting back up. “A burpee is a great full-body workout that members sometimes hate to do, but love the physical results of the exercise. Some trainers incorporate burpees in every session and members found this to be a fun ‘pay-back’ for the trainers,” said Samantha Taylor, CEO and Health & Fitness Expert. Last year, $1,092 was raised from members who really wanted to see their trainer doing back-to-back burpees.
The funds raised by Samantha Taylor Fitness will be donated to Hooked on Hope, a local charitable organization that helps women in Tampa Bay with their treatment expenses. Jamie Stembridge Council, Co-Director of Hooked on Hope confirmed, “Hooked on Hope donates 100% of the funds to those uninsured and under insured going through breast cancer treatment.” Stembridge continued, “The Treatment Support Grants help breast cancer patients cover the costs of various doctor and hospital co-payments, prescriptions, living expenses and other treatment related expenses.”
The goal is to reach $1,500 for 2018 and make a larger impact in the community. To promote the event, the hashtag #Burpees4BreastCancerTreatment will be used in all social media posts.
